Three years of quality assurance data assessing the performance of over 4000 grant peer review contributions to the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Project Grant Competition

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) commenced a Quality Assurance Program in 2019 to monitor the quality peer review its Project Grant Competition Peer Review Committees. Our primary aim was describe performance CIHR grant reviewers, based on assessments made by leaders during first 3 years Program. All Committee Chairs and (or) Scientific Officers who led for 2019, 2020, 2021 completed Reviewer Feedback forms immediately following meetings. form assessed Performance, Future potential, quality, Participation, Responsiveness. We summarised descriptively synthesised data from conducted after each four competitions. reviewers 4438 occasions rated Officers. Approximately one three submitted outstanding reviews or discussed additional applications 10 demonstrated potential as future leader. At most, 20 considered have not performed adequately with respect participation, responsiveness. There is need more research processes involved allocating funding.
